Nous sommes en 1991, Mariah est toute "récente" sur la scène musicale mais a pourtant déjà 4 singles consécutifs classés #1 au Billboard. "Emotions", le premier single tiré de l'album éponyme sera le 5e. Pourquoi, pourquoi avait-elle autant de succès? Sans doute grâce à sa voix, cette voix que les gens n'avaient jusque là presqu'encore jamais entendu, ce petit bou de femme qui ne demandait qu'a s'affirmer, à être prise au sérieux. Je ne sais pas si c'est avec cet album qu'elle s'affirmera mais elle obtien avec le single "Emotions" un nouveau reccord, celui d'avoir 5 singles consécutifs classés #1 au Hot 100. la suite, vous la connaissez sans doute et je ne suis pas la pour faire sa biographie mais pour donner mon avis sur cet album que j'avoue un peu moins connaitre que les autres? Pourquoi? La musique me plaît moins, "And You Don't Remember", "You're So Cold" et "Till The End Of Time" étant les seules chansons que je connaissent vraiment. Certes "Emotions" est un bon album musicalement parlant mais aussi beaucoup moins accrocheur que son prédécesseur "Mariah Carey" qui avait propulsé notre diva au rang de super star. Les musique sont souvent "pareilles", j'entend pas là que je ne le trouve pas assez diversifié et j'irai même jusqu'a dire que c'est un album sortit histoire de continuer la lancée de Mariah, c'est à dire accumuler un maximum de #1's singles. Lancée de Mariah ou plutôt de Mottola car elle ne dirigeait pas grand chose notre Mariah à cette époque à part sa voix et encore...
En fait, "Emotions", "Can't Let Go" et "Make it Happen" sont vraiment de bons singles mais toujours quelque peu copiés sur "Mariah Carey". On dit même que Mariah aurait souhaiter faire de cet album un disque plus RNB, plus retour aux sources mais Mottola n'avait qu'une idée en tête, refaire un album similaire au prédécesseur... Pathétique...
En bref, "Emotions" est pour moi un bon album a écouter par ci par là mais bon, on en a vite fait le tour... Je préfère de loin la performance que Mariah tiendra quelques mois plus tard lors du célèbre concert du "MTv Unplugged" où elle montrera la véritable étendue de ses chansons qui sont quelques peu fades dans l'album.
